Welcoming you, there is an enchanted natural landscape, a photo taken in ancient times and still identical today. The dense vegetation extends for almost two thousand 500 hectares and becomes a part of one of the most extensive forest areas in Europe. The view reaches the horizon and goes beyond hundred-year-old oak trees, amidst the greenery of the holm oaks and poplars, mastics and junipers, while the air is filled with the fragrance of the cork oak forests and myrtle. Evocative water courses that descend from underwater springs get lost inside the forest, which is also adorned with carob trees and mastics. Monti Nieddu, inside the territories of Capoterra, Sarroch and Villa San Pietro, will allow you to leave the frenzy of the city behind you with walks and trekking trips into the heart of nature.
A large part of the forest grows on granite massifs and sheer slopes alternating with plains. Here there is a habitat particularly rich in food and shelter for Sardinia's most typical animal species. Wherever you turn, you can see a jay making a nest on the trees, a goshawk or a buzzard flying high in the sky or you might notice a crow intent on eating in the shady vegetation. It is not unusual to come across a dormouse, a weasel or a fox. However, the real undisputed kings of the territory are the Corsican red deer and the golden eagle.
The area is protected, along with other green bordering areas: Is Cannoneris, the forest of Pixinamanna, Mount Arcosu and the oases of Gutturu Mannu and Pantaleo, all havens for hikers and places of mysterious tales of reality and fantasy. The forests join the infinite beauty of Lower Sulcis. Not too far from here, the territory continues on in its splendour: here, the crystal clear sea of Perd'e Sali and Porto Columbu, the beaches of Nora and of Su Guventeddu, to the long strip of fine sand of Santa Margherita di Pula, and the archaeological appeal of the ruins of the ancient town of Nora. After a relaxing walk on the beaches, you can taste some of the delicacies of the local cuisine in the nearby villages.
